Most organizations have copy-paste principles.
“We love our employees.” “Client value creation.” “Best people.” Principles like this are the same from one company to the next. But what does company leadership truly value internally?
From the outside, you don’t know. You spend time and energy in interviews, negotiations, and onboarding to discover whether you’ll like the company or not. You won’t know if it’s a wash until you’re in the belly of the beast.
Sometimes you can glean the principles in interviews, but, let’s ignore that for a second.
This week, a Paul Hastings culture memo was leaked and it evokes a visceral reaction. You either read it and are appalled. Or you are in love with it. You run away from or run towards them.
Like Anand says: that’s the point. They don’t want to waste anyone’s time that doesn’t align with their point of view. And candidates won’t waste time with them. Those that are left, will work for them.
